Hi, we’re Austen and Emily—along with our dogs, Harley and Abel—and we’re the people (and pups) behind Yard Guard.

We live here in the Northwoods. We spend our time outdoors here. And like so many others in this area, we’ve seen firsthand how ticks, mosquitoes, and other pests can impact daily life—not just as an inconvenience, but as a real health concern for both people and pets.

Harley and Abel were the true inspiration behind Yard Guard. Both were diagnosed with anaplasmosis from tick exposure, and both have extremely sensitive skin that made traditional tick collars and medications difficult to tolerate. Doing nothing wasn’t an option—but relying on harsh chemicals in the same spaces where our dogs rest, play, and live didn’t feel right either.

We wanted something that actually worked—without introducing toxins into our yard, our home, or our environment. That search led us to plant-based, non-toxic solutions designed to effectively protect against ticks, mosquitoes, fleas, and other pests while staying gentle on skin, bodies, and the land around us.

Yard Guard was built from that place of care and responsibility. Every treatment we provide is guided by the same question we asked for our own family: Is this safe, effective, and truly necessary? We believe you don’t need toxins to protect your yard—you just need the right approach, applied thoughtfully and honestly.

As Northwoods locals and small business owners, community matters deeply to us. Around here, reputation matters. Trust matters. And treating people—and their property—with respect matters. That’s why we intentionally limit our service area, take the time to do things right, and treat every lawn with the same care we give our own backyard.
